Procedures

  • Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. Joseph Naim has performed over 3,000 weight loss surgery procedures. His private practice, with offices in Los Angeles, CA, Long Beach, and Orange County, provides treatment with minimized risks and successful outcomes thanks to advanced technology and a highly trained staff. Many patients have achieved life-changing and long-lasting results with Gastric Sleeve, Lap-Band, Gastric Bypass and other procedures performed by Dr. Naim. He also provides body contouring procedures that can provide a powerful complement to your weight loss.

  • Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgery in which Dr. Naim removes approximately 80% of your stomach. Following the surgery, your stomach will have a vertical sleeve-like appearance, and will be able to hold approximately 100 to 150 mL. For most patients, this smaller stomach allows them to fill up more quickly, and dramatically decrease their food intake. Dr. Naim performs more sleeve gastrectomies than any other type of bariatric surgery, and it has a higher success rate than any other weight loss surgery.

  • LAP-BAND® Surgery

If you struggle with your weight, you are not alone. Millions of Americans are considered overweight, and 100 million of them are considered obese. Dr. Joseph Naim understands the physical discomfort and self-consciousness you are experiencing. For this reason, he offers the trusted, proven LAP-BAND® procedure at his Long Beach office or one of his other four locations in Los Angeles and Orange County. LAP-BAND® reduces the size of your stomach, helping you to become full faster and ultimately eat less.

  • Gastric Bypass Surgery

The surgery involves two steps. In the first part of the procedure, Dr. Naim will make your stomach smaller, using staples to separate your stomach into a lower pouch and a smaller upper pouch. The upper pouch will be the part that holds food with a capacity of about one ounce. In the second step, Dr. Naim attaches the jejunum, a part of your small intestine, to the upper portion of your stomach. As a result, food reaches the small intestine much more quickly, and your body absorbs fewer calories. Alternatively, Dr. Naim can perform a fobi pouch procedure, which achieves long-term results by using a silastic ring to create a smaller stomach pouch. While gastric bypass can be performed through open surgery, Dr. Joseph Naim prefers minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, using long, thin tubes attached to a camera and a computer monitor. The laparoscopes are inserted through tiny incisions in your abdomen, resulting in a faster and more comfortable recovery.

  • ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon

The comprehensive ORBERA™ Managed Weight Loss System begins with the placement of the ORBERA™ balloon. During a simple procedure performed under the effects of a mild sedative, Dr. Joseph Naim will place the thin and deflated ORBERA™ balloon into the stomach. It is then filled with saline until it reaches a predetermined volume to fill a space roughly the size of a grapefruit. The inflated balloon, which remains in place no longer than six months, reinforces portion control and improved dietary habits. While undergoing treatment with the balloon, and after it is removed, you will take part in the ORBERA™ Managed Weight Loss System 12-month coaching program. During this time, you will consult with a team of physicians, nutritionists, and physiologists. With the aid of a customized treatment plan, these experts will help you tailor and refine your eating and exercise regimen.

  • Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is generally performed one year after your bariatric surgery, or once you have reached your optimal and expected weight. Because tummy tucks are slightly more involved when performed on post-bariatric patients, they can take two to three hours. Dr. Naim will make an incision between your hip bones, at about the level of your pubic hair. Through this incision, he will reattach separated muscles, and remove excess fat, tissue, and skin. He will also separate and reattach your navel, since some of the surrounding tissue will have been removed during the procedure.
