Dr. Barry Zamost was born and raised in New Jersey. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Boston University. His internship and residency were at the Wadsworth Veterans Hospital in Los Angeles, and his gastroenterology fellowship was completed through the combined UCLA-VA program. He is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Dr. Zamost started his private practice in Long Beach in 1981 and was one of the original founders of Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates in 1983. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology, Southern California Society of Gastroenterology and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Zamost provides personalized care to all patients with gastrointestinal disorders, has extensive experience in endoscopy and colonoscopy, and has been selected for numerous peer nominated “Best Doctors” lists. Dr. Diana Yao was raised outside of Portland, Oregon. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She received her medical degree from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine as well as completing a year as Chief Resident. She also completed her GI fellowship at UC Irvine. Dr. Yao is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Yao joined Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates in 1996. Her primary interests in the practice are general GI consultations and colon cancer screening with extensive experience in endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. Dr. Yao and her family are very active skiing, fly fishing, wakeboarding, and scouting.

Dr. David Drake grew up in Wyoming, graduated from Stanford University and received his Medical Degree from the University of Arizona. His internship, residency and GI fellowship were completed at the University of California, Irvine Dr. Drake is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He currently is the managing partner of Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates. Dr. Drake has been on active staff at Long Beach Memorial Medical center since 1982. He has served as Chief of Medicine and Section Chief of the GI Department. He is a member of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Drake has been on the teaching faculty for UCLA for 10 years and more recently with UC Irvine. His interests are GI consultation, upper endoscopy, and colonoscopy Dr. Drake and his wife Cheryl have two grown children and have lived in Long Beach since 1977. They enjoy the mountains, skiing, hiking and fly fishing.

Dr. Kalpana Patel completed her medical training (Bachelor of medicine and surgery, MBBS) from University of Bombay, India, and moved to the USA In 1992. Subsequently, she completed her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Fellowship from Los Angeles County – University of Southern California Medical Center. Dr. Kalpana Patel has been a part of Long Beach Gastroenterology for the last 10 years. She is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a member of The American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology, Crohn’s - Colitis Foundation and The Indian Medical Association of Southern California. Dr. Patel practices General Gastroenterology with Endoscopy and Colonoscopy and is also proficient with Biliary procedures (ERCP) and reads Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy. In addition to her professional work, she is her Kids' Mom and actively participates in school and sports activities of her daughter and son. During her free time, she does Yoga, enjoys travel, movies, and Indian music.

Dr. Erik Kerekes was born and raised in South Pasadena, California. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a double major in Biopsychology and Biological Sciences. Subsequently, he continued on to medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, followed by a transitional internship at New York Medical College. He then went on to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship. Dr. Kerekes is certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and he is a Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology. Currently, Dr. Kerekes is the Senior Managing Partner at Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates. Dr. Kerekes is dedicated to providing compassionate medical care to his patients and has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the biliary tract. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Italian. In his free time, Dr. Kerekes and his wife Christine enjoy movies, beach living, sports, and above all, spending time with their two children.

Dr. Matthew Mukherjee grew up in Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and received his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. His internship and residency were completed at Albert Einstein-Montefiore Medical Center in New York. He went on to graduate from the gastroenterology fellowship program at Long Island College Hospital. Dr. Mukherjee is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Mukherjee joined our staff in February of 2011 after practicing in the Burbank and Glendale area. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Orange County Society of Gastroenterology, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Mukherjee is committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care. He performs GI consultations and has extensive experience in endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures, including biliary endoscopy. His professional interests include inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and colon cancer screening. Dr. Mukherjee enjoys spending time with his wife and children, watching Michigan football (most years) and always a funny movie.

Dr. Saied Goshtasbi completed his medical training from the Iran University of Medical Sciences and moved to the United States in 2002 where he completed his Residency in Internal Medicine from the University Of Wisconsin Medical School in Milwaukee. He was appointed Chief Resident in 2005 and completed three years of Post Graduate training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In 2009 he completed an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at U.C.L.A. He is certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology. Dr. Goshtasbi joined our staff in May of 2012 after practicing in Downey and Lynwood. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, The American College of Gastroenterology, and The American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Goshtasbi enjoys all aspects of Gastroenterology but he has a special interest in the treatment of liver diseases, focusing on Fatty Liver Disease and Hepatitis C as well as disorders of biliary ducts, inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer screening. In 2018 Dr. Goshtasbi has led our practice in the implementation of FibroScan to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of Fatty Liver and NASH. Dr. Gostasbi believes we need to be both compassionate for patients and efficient for society. He strives to ensure that every patient receives the highest level of medical care. Dr. Goshtasbi enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He likes watching football, soccer, movies and listening to Persian music.

Rachna Shah, MS, PA-C is a California States and National Board Certified Physician Assistant who has specialized in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology who has trained in both inpatient, outpatient, and surgical settings. She holds a Bachelors of Science with a concentration in Public Health Education from California State University, Long Beach, and a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant studies from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Rachna is also an active member of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants and Gastroenterology Physician Assistants (GIPA). Rachna has been with Long Beach Gastroenterology & Associates since 2016, and prior to her role here she was at Stanford Children's Health where she worked as surgical Physician Assistant for the Liver and Intestinal Transplant program. Rachna has worked in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology since the start of her career, and is dedicated in providing comprehensive and compassionate medical care. During her free time, Rachna enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and cooking.

Andrea Marincovich was born and raised in beautiful Southern California. She graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. She completed her Dietetic Internship with Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina. Andrea is credentialed as a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. She has worked extensively in the acute hospital setting of multiple medical centers – Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, College Hospital Costa Mesa, and Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center. She specializes in implementing medical nutrition therapy diets according to certain disease states and health complications, as well as weight management. Andrea is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Orange District of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her main goal as an RD is to sympathize, educate, and empower every single individual she interacts with. She acknowledges that there are several things in life that are out of our control, but the one thing we are in control of is what we decide to fuel our body with nutritionally. She wants individuals to recognize this control and take back the quality of their lives! Andrea enjoys working out, lounging in the sun, and any time she is spending with her family.

Dr. Jose Luis (Jeric) Aranez, MD joins Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates in 2020 after finishing his Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy training from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He received his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean and completed his Internal Medicine and Chief Medical Residency from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He then completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Finally, he completed his Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship from Baylor College of Medicine. His practice includes general gastroenterology with interests in GERD, Peptic ulcer disease, colorectal cancer screening and inflammatory bowel disease. His clinical interest includes the diagnosis, staging, and management of gastrointestinal malignancy and the utilization of therapeutic endoscopy to offer minimally invasive procedures. In addition to upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, Dr. Aranez has specialized training in therapeutic endoscopy which encompasses Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Cholangioscopy (Spyglass), Pancreatoscopy (Spyglass), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Enteral Stents (esophageal, gastroduodenal, colon) and Luminal Apposing Metal Stents (LAMS). He and his wife are the proud parents of two children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, exploring outdoor activities, and traveling. He is an avid sports fan and roots for the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
